How to become a more responsible traveler? Read here for some useful advice you can take with you before, during and after your trip.
The conscientious tourist: prior to, during, and following a journey
Being a lady who enjoys traveling, I've been searching for a manual on how to choose wisely when going on international vacation. Finding one wasn't simple, so eventually I made the decision to learn more about it and create my own guide. And so, here we are.
To be clear, this is not an attempt at responsible travel in the same sense as "eco," "sustainable," or anything else you might identify with those terms.
This list is made for us who love to travel and will continue to do so. From here, we should share with each other our experiences and tips on how we can do it most responsibly. The guide is divided into before, during and after the trip.
Before you travel: rent out your home to other travelers
While on vacation, consider renting out your house to earn some cash. Letting your house for rent benefits the environment as well as your pocketbook. We can make greater use of the resources we currently have thanks to the sharing economy.
Even renting out a condo through Airbnb has been a great experience for me.
Before you go: Transportation
A common scapegoat for CO2 emissions is air travel. Thus, if you must fly for whatever reason, you should think about the following:
Can you take a direct flight? If yes, this is the best solution, as 25% of the emissions from airplanes come from takeoffs and landings.
CO2 offset! There has been a lot of criticism in this area, as you cannot offset CO2 offsetting with how much CO2 you actually emitted during the flight. The alpha and omega is that it's better than doing nothing. You can learn more about CO2 Compensation here.
Setting objectives for our modes of transportation is crucial, in addition to helping us become more conscientious travelers. For instance, if we travelers consider it, there are numerous benefits to using the train as opposed to flying.
Before traveling: The art of choosing a hotel or accommodation
If you decide to make a hotel reservation, make careful to review the credentials to confirm that the establishment conforms with laws pertaining to, among other things, waste disposal, human rights, and working conditions.
The top four global organizations for sustainable tourism are Earth Check, Green Globe, Travelife, and Green Key. You can choose hotels with one of these certificates, as all four have eco-labels.
Before traveling: drinking water.
You can plan ahead and determine whether you need to purchase a filtered water bottle, like LifeStraw or Grayl, or whether you just need a recyclable water bottle to cut down on your usage by finding out if you can drink water wherever you go. polymer.
